Thirty years after he flew Argosy ZK-SAE to its final landing, Captain Allan Graham was again in command as he, co-pilot and wife Jan and Ulysses friends celebrated his 80th birthday. A privilege to have you aboard, Captain. Happy Birthday!

The Argosy aircraft is having an overdue spruce-up, with advice and moral support from many people. Currently water-blasting accumulated grime, full re-paint of booms and 8 metre tails nearly complete, thanks to Callum at Gear Up! In a couple of months the historic old girl will look like she just came out of the factory.

The 2020 refurbisment of the Argosy plane – had a double boost, time during the Covid-19 emergency and beautiful still Autumn weather.

June 2020: Plane open each day, 10am to 4pm. Virtual flight experience – group bookings now open. Morning or afternoon tea – $15 per head.

The excitement builds! The old Argosy Cafe at Woodbourne
will soon be resurrected as “The Runway” with new owners Steve and Lisa. In the meantime the Argosy aircraft itself is having an overdue spruce-up, with advice and help from many people. Currently water-blasting accumulated grime, full re-paint coming up. In a couple of months the historic old girl will look like she just came out of the factory.

Argosy Flys Again!

“Fly the giant – at Economy Class prices.”
Before long you will be able to book a “virtual flight”, complete with inflight movies and meals, on board the historic Argosy aircraft at Woodbourne.

Paul says “There’s only one way to ever fly an Argosy these days, and that’s to come to Woodbourne. I guarantee you will not know the difference from a real flight – except your ears won’t pop!”

Paul Davidson, who owns the aircraft, says that now the next door café has a new owner, he will focus on refurbishing the aircraft, including a new terminal, a full re-paint, before raising it up on to one metre high plinths. Hydraulic rams inside the plinths will move in sync with the on-board sound and vision, giving the complete experience of a real flight on board what is the world’s last passenger Argosy. None of these unique twin-boom aircraft are left flying anywhere in the world.

The flights will take off summer this year. Meantime, the aircraft is open to the public by appointment.
